Last year, when I started getting serious about growing and utilizing my email list, I decided to offer more “Content Upgrades” to my readers. If you’re unfamiliar, a Content Upgrade is any sort of download you create for a blog post, which can only be accessed in exchange for one’s email address.
So, if I created a workbook to go along with a blog post, then readers could download it fo’ free if they signed up to my email list. This strategy works really well in providing value to your readers and growing your list…but what happens when you start to create 10 or 20 content upgrades? Do your peeps have to subscribe every single time if they want your freebie? And how do you even deliver all of these content upgrades? #confusing.
At the time, I had no idea how to pull this off, as I was still using Mailchimp and hadn’t even heard of Leadpages. So instead of trying to figure out how to send different content upgrades to the same people, I created my own solution: a free resource library.
My free resource library is a password-protected section of my blog that is only accessible to subscribers. It’s home to tons of “content upgrades,” like workbooks, checklists, e-books, and other free downloads. Since creating my library, I’ve seen lots of others adopt the same strategy. I’ve also gotten tons of questions from people who would like to create their own free resource library, but don’t know where to start. Don’t fret my pet. I gotchu covered.
In today’s tutorial, I’m showing you exactly how and why I created a library as my opt-in freebie, including tech videos so that you can set up your download gallery (don’t worry, it’s simple!). So, if you want to grow your email list, provide tremendous value to your audience, and become a #badassboss, then you’re in the right place m’friend.
Why should you create a free resource library as your opt-in freebie?
Good question, yo! Creating an entire library, as opposed to a single freebie, can be beneficial for quite a few reasons. Here are some of my favorites. I think you might like ’em, too. 😉
1. Makes it easier to house multiple content upgrades.
I mean, duh, right? If you don’t use this method, then you will have to figure out another method to deliver multiple content upgrades to your subscribers. Don’t get me wrong, it’s totally possible, but you’ll need to employ a more sophisticated email marketing service or another tool, like Leadpages. With a free resource library? You can use it with something as simple as Mailchimp.
Plus, it makes things pretty easy on you. Instead of having to set up multiple lists within your email service provider, all you have to do is upload your latest freebie to your library. Easy peasy.
2. It adds more value to your brand.
Errbody has a free e-book as their opt-in freebie these days. Sure, free e-books are valuable, but they’re not unique. They don’t stand out to new visitors. But an entire library of free shiz? Dayum. That sounds kind of rad, no? Not only does it provide more free, valuable content to your readers, but it also sets your brand apart and makes your email list more memorable. Simply put: a library of killer resources is more useful than any one of those single resources on its own.
3. It will substantially grow your email list.
The moment you’ve probably been waiting for. Does this strategy even freakin’ work? Yes, yes it does. Luckily, I can tell you from experience, rather than from made-up assumptions. Take a look at my email list growth:

You can see that my email list was pretty stagnant for over a year. It grew a little and then was stagnant yet again. That’s because I was one of those “sign up for my super vague newsletter!” people. You’ll notice that around May 2015, things started to change. And beginning in June 2015, my email list started growing by significant leaps. Whereas it used to grow by 100-200 people per month, all of a sudden it was growing by 1,500-2,000 people every.single.month. I started May 2015 with about 4,000 subscribers and ended December 2015 with over 23,000. Holy balls.
Sure, there are other factors that helped with this growth, but want to know when I implemented my free resource library? The end of May. If you’re keeping track, this is also when my email list started going bananas. I see a connection, don’t you?
4. It gets you to work harder in order to provide more value
Have you ever walked into a public library with only two books? Yeah, I didn’t think so. The same thing goes for your resource library; in order to be a library, it’s got to be well stocked. This doesn’t mean you need volumes upon volumes of resources (I mean, maybe if Shakespeare created his own free resource library?), but it does mean you should aim to have at least five downloads in your resource library, with the expectation that you’ll add to it over time.
To some, this sounds like work. To me, this sounds like accountability.
Does creating freebies ever feel like a slog? Do you procrastinate and put off the important stuff? Well, imagine your resource library as your strict middle school teacher, personified. Or don’t, that’s kind of weird. But having a resource library will encourage you to create more, kickass content for your subscribers.
…So, have I converted you? Are you on board with the library strategy? Are you already trying to think of cooler names for yours, like “The Vault of Awesome Freebies” or “The Badass Biblioteca”? Sweet. Now, let’s chat about how to actually bring this thing to life.
First, you’ll need two things:
- The Essential Grid plugin. This plugin is only for WordPress. I’d love to tell you how to create a library in Squarespace and every other platform on the planet, but alas, I don’t use those platforms so I’d really have no idea. By the way, that is an affiliate link, just so we’re on the same page. But hey, Essential Grid is what I use, and after this tutorial, I think you’ll want to use it, too.
- A new WordPress page. Yes, seriously. Just create a new freakin’ page.
- Optional: Some super awesome free resources. I recommend saving these as PDFs. This is optional for now, but you’ll obviously need to create some freebies before you launch your library.
Now, once you’ve downloaded the Essential Grid plugin, check out the video below to figure out how to upload it to your site, customize it to your likin’ and add it to your free resource library. I literally walk you through step-by-step-by-step so that you can get your library up and running right meow.
- Make sure your page is password-protected. Choose a password that is, in some way, relevant to your brand. Then, configure your welcome email for new subscribers (tutorial on that here!) so that they are sent the link to your library and the password to access it.
- Your resource library “skin” should match your website’s branding. Yes, the template editor is pretty groovy and has some cool lookin’ functions. Don’t get too crazy and make sure to use the same colors and fonts that you already use in your branding (or as close as you can get). This will ensure that your library blends into your site seamlessly.
- You need to create a thumbnail image as well as a PDF download. What I like to do is just create my PDF and then upload the cover in Photoshop (though you can upload it elsewhere, like Canva!). Then, just shrink the cover a little (mine is about 300x450px) and save it as a JPG. Now, you can upload this cover image to appear in your resource library and link it to the PDF. This is all explained in the video, but I thought you might like a little reminder. 😉
Alright m’friend! I hope this tutorial helped you to create your own resource library. It’s easy to do, adds a ton of value for your readers, and will help you significantly grow your email list. It’s kind of the shiz. 🙂

Melyssa, thanks so much for this tutorial! Excellent as usual! I’ve dabbled with the idea of creating a resource library for a long time, but could never find a nice enough plugin to create it from. I’ve been wondering what you were using for yours for a long time, so I really appreciate you sharing it so openly! A library is definitely on my to-do list to get set up very soon.
You’re so welcome, Tenns! I totally get what you mean. There are lots of ugly plugins out there, ha! I love this one because it’s purdy and super customizable so it can really blend in with your branding.
I started to use Squarespace in December for my new project, She Builds, and it is actually really simple. I just played around with it now after reading this post. Using a gallery template in Squarespace, you can add images and attach a URLs (wherever one houses their content upgrade files) to those images to make them clickable. Definitely something I will be building as I create more resources. Really great tip Melyssa! Happy New Year!
Aukele, that sounds so easy! I’m glad you have discovered a way to do this on SS too. Enjoy!
This was amazingly helpful! Thank you!!!
I am so glad it helped Rocio!
This is so timely! I was suffering from the multiple opt-in lists! Lol. I will definitely put this on schedule to tackle next week. Thanks!
This is literally the same thing I was having trouble with! This post came at the perfect time.
I am glad you found an answer here, Stephanie!
I was right there with ya. I started branching out with LeadPages Lead Magnet Delivery but this might be easier (and more tightly coupled).
– Jeff
I’m glad to hear that you will implement this JaQuette.
What a great idea, thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome, thanks for reading!
Thanks for this amazing tutorial! I’m definitely tucking this in my back pocket for later.
Thanks so much Nic! I’m glad to hear that you have a future project to look forward to.
Aweome! I’m working on great an awesome freebie resources center on both my blog, and on my biz sites. 🙂
Oh good! That sounds perfect, Shae.
Yay!!! This is so applicable and helpful! Thanks yet again, Melyssa! 🙂
You are very welcome, Hannah! Thanks for stopping by.
Fantastic content as always! Thanks so much for this.
Hi B
I couldn’t resist your icon. Tomorrow will be a big night. Here we go Steelers, Here we go!!
– Jeff
Hey Jeff…will be a fantastic night if the Steelers win and I WIN THE LOTTERY!!!! WooHoo!!!!!
Ha, hope you win!
I’m glad you found this helpful!
I like your tutorial and the post. It is very clear what to do and how to do it.
Great, Judy! I’m really glad to hear that it is clear for you.
Hi Melyssa!! This is AWESOME. I have been thinking about doing this and even tried to create a password protected page when first launching but, it looked awful so I gave up on the idea. Now that I continuously keep learning from my mistakes (like giving a way free downloads without asking for emails, oops) I will surely be using this tutorial to set up an official library.
‘To some, this sounds like work. To me, this sounds like accountability.’ Love that.
Thank you, for this and like.. everything else you do that is awesome 😀
Aw you’re so welcome, Vanessa! I’m really glad you enjoyed this. 🙂 And not to worry, I gave away plenty of free stuff before without asking for people’s email addresses. I like to think we were building good will. 😉 Now, at least you’ll have plenty of things to stock it with! 🙂
WOW!!! This is so helpful. I’m totally using this concept for my readers. I just had hosted a webinar with a worksheet, and now I can keep that content for future readers. Thank you!!
Oh good Amber! I am really glad to hear that you found this to be so helpful.
Wow thank you so much. This came at the perfect time for me! I’ve promised my readers this before Xmas and now need to implement it.
Fantastic! Glad to help, Zara. 🙂
Melyssa, this is AMAZING! I’ve been wondering how to do this and I’m off to download the plugin right now… One question (which I might answer myself when I dive in): I’d like to create several folders with different types of resources in each… is that possible with this plugin?
Thanks for this super-informative tutorial 🙂
So glad this is helpful, Kara! 🙂 And hmmm I’m honestly not too sure about folders, but what you COULD do is just link the image to another page where you’ve inserted a different Essential Grid. So, the first page would have the album titles and they’d each be linked to different galleries on your site. Does that make sense?
Oh, now THAT is brilliant! Thanks again, Melyssa! 🙂
This is right on time. Thanks for this great post!
Awesome! Glad to help 🙂
Hi Melyssa
This is….everything!
Thank you so much. I’ve been dealing with the whole Mailchimp multiple distributions for awhile. I started doing some giveaways via LeadPages Lead Magnet Delivery but that is so disconnected from your mailing list functionality. AND, I want to give away a lot of content so this is a nice middle ground.
I thought about doing a membership site but that’s a little overkill for free content. If I amp it up to paid, then I can look at Wishlist Member.
Love using WordPress native functionality. Now I have a weekend project.
Thanks again
– Jeff
Hey Jeff, that is so awesome! I’m really happy to hear that you will be implementing this so quickly. I agree about the Lead Magnet Delivery as well. It would be cool to have a paid member’s site too.
Wow! This post came right on time. I was actually wondering how to password protect a page before checking my email today, and in the past had always been curious how you were able to offer downloadable pdfs on your site. Thank you!!
I am so glad to hear that this was right on time for you Dari!
Thank you! I got Essential Grid with my new blog theme, so was excited to find a way to use it effectively and it solved my struggle of trying to figure out how to keep my for sale store items and freebies separate. I appreciate you sharing your wisdom.
Oh great! I am glad that you are going to get to use this Lisa!
145 subscriptions this month so far! Compared to all the 2 digit months before that? I’m counting it as a win. 🙂 Thanks for the idea!
This is a really valuable post. Thanks so much for sharing!
Oh I am so glad you found it valuable!
I don’t remember when I signed up to your mailing list, but your awesome resource library inspired me to do my own! In August I switched from a free ebook opt-in to a Reiki resource library and tripled my subscribers!
Oh that’s amazing! Congrats 🙂
I like the idea of a secret page just for my subscribers. Instead of PDFs I want to have a gallery of private videos which only my email subs can see.
Oh that sounds great, Amy!
Thanks for sharing this, Melyssa. I definitely want to do this on my blog. My question is: how to you protect your future content from those that unsubscribe, since they already have the password?
I use a resource library for my opt-in freebie as well, and if someone unsubscribes, they will still have access to the freebies. There’s really no way around it using this exact method.
This doesn’t bother me though because I get a large number of permanent subscribers and the number of unsubscribes is so low, it’s not something to worry about.
that’s a good point Tiffany. I sometimes worry about that too and considering changing the password every few months but the last time i changed it, it was such a hassle and i got so many emails from people saying they couldn’t get in, so i don’t recommend that haha!
I also thought about changing the password as an option, Marianne. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks, Melyssa and Tiffany. It’s not something I’ll worry about then.
I totally agree with Tiffany! Someone who is taking the time to log into the site is less likely to be one that will unsubscribe.
This is amazing. I’ve been planning on implementing this, as well, once I actually get my site up and running. I’m using essential grid already for my blog page, so this shouldn’t be too difficult for me. Thanks for the video! I’m excited to give this a try. 🙂
Hi Melissa, once someone has the password, do they always have to enter the library via the email link you send them? Just i can’t find a way to login to the library if i already have the password from your homepage?love your posts 🙂
What a great way to provide more resources and value to your audience. I was just thinking about how to package up all the content upgrades I’ve created. Thank you for the idea, I’ll be implementing asap.

Just in time for me too! Your instructions are to the point and easy for me to understand. THANK YOU!
This was super helpful! And $26 wasn’t bad for this plugin. I’m really happy with it.
I love the idea of a resource library (yours is awesome!) But my blog is hosted by blogger… do you know of any thing, or any ways, to recreate this same idea?
Love it! I used to have a resource type section on the blog but it was all affiliate links and I just didn’t like it. I’ve began creating more original downloadable content and have been looking into Leadpages, I wish they had a free trial though. I’m wondering if the same processes can be setup through mailchimp? Which do you use, or both? Thanks!
Love this post thank you! I’m totally geeking out over the Essential Grid plugin. I’m so glad you discussed this as I’ve been thinking about creating a content library as a way to stand out from the crowd. You’re so right, everyone has a free eBook or Guide as their opt-in these days.
LOL
IF I say I am going to bookmark this, it would be one of the many spam comments people get 😛 But I need to bookmark it. The information you have posted has been taken up by my brain but the plugin and process you cited to create the library needs me to visit again.
Thanks for sharing. Great site.
Regards

Hey Melyssa!
This. Is. Awesome.
…Seriously. Thank you.
I’m so glad I found your site because I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of opt-in to offer for a while now, and this blog post helped open my eyes to an option I’d never even thought of before.
So yeah. Thanks again for another badass blogging tip!

Melyssa, this is great! I had been thinking of doing this for awhile and this post just sealed the deal… thanks!
Melyssa, you are AWESOME! I launched my resource library for translators last Monday with 106 subscribers on my list and now have 162. For most of you this is probably a super small list, but I mean: Hey, it’s 52% growth in one week, right? My blog is also like 2 months old, so for me this is really a huge step! Thank you SO much!
Great tutorial! And great way to add value to your brand. Pinning this and definitely planning to get to work on this.
This was such a helpful post. I just set my grid up and it looks awesome. One problem- how do I set it up so that when a returning subscriber comes to my parent page (the page preceding the pdf download page) they can just enter their email and password? Is that a plugin to download, or can I create a button to accept the email and password? Right now, it just says, thanks, we already have your email address and takes the reader nowhere. Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial. I was able to set it up and I am using Tyler as your tutorial shows. My question is this: You have just one download link even though it shows 2 icons to click on. How did you get rid of the second icon? Thanks in advance!
I have been trying to get a grid on my blog for months now and nothing seems to work. I am looking for a way to have a page full of images, and then readers can click on an image to take them to most posts about the same topic. Do you know if Essential Grid can do that?
Macy, If you haven’t already, take a look at the Essential Grid website. I shows all sorts of different media that you can have images link to. I was looking for the same thing for along time and only could find it on the Blogger platform. Essential Grid will link to blog posts, video and other things. I highly recommend checking it out.
Thank you so much, Char! I will take a look now
Thank you so much! This tutorial was Amazing on so many levels. I found the plug-in I’ve been looking for. You also helped me set apart my Free Opt-in from a boring Newsletter. Which saves me time and will give my readers something of real value! Also, the video was super helpful. I hope that you had an affiliate link with Essential Grid. So totally worth it!
Does anybody have an idea how to do this on Squarespace? 🙂
Hi Anna, I believe you can create a new page in Squarespace and under the settings for that page, you’re allowed to put a password blocker. So, only the people with that password would be granted access. I believe that should work to allow access to only your subscribers. Hope that helps! (:
Hi Devin! Thanks so much for helping! SS does allow you to create password protected pages, which would be perfect for a resource library!
Thanks so much for this tutorial – I just added one to my new blog tonight 🙂
That’s so exciting, wahoo!! 🙂
Do you use the honor system and hope the password is not shared with those who have not subscribed? Has that been an issue?
I do! My hope is that everyone is honest about utilizing the resource library 🙂
Ok. I like that. I will do the same. Let me tell you how much of a true blessing your information is to me. I spent 2 hours on your site last night reading and watching your videos. Someone from one of the Facebook groups I am in recommended you and you are awesome thank you again so much.
Oh my goodness, I’m so grateful! Thank you so much for taking the time to read TNC. I’m so glad it has been helpful to you 🙂
This is something I’m working on at the moment Melyssa and have noticed a big leap in signups compared to any other lead magnet I’ve done before! Thanks for the great post.
That’s awesome, I’m so glad you’re putting your resource library to work for you! Woo! >_<
I was thinking to offer my printables only to subscribers but I am not sure what to do with the printables that I already have on site. Leave it how it is or offer to subscribers only? Thank you!
You can definitely change it to subscribers only from here on out. Go with your gut, and do what feels best! >_<
Thank you so much, this is super helpful!
Thanks Jenna! 🙂
This is great! The video is so helpful. Thanks for the step-by-step help! Every post you have is so useful…I love reading TNC!
I’m so glad, and this just made my day! Thank you Kate 🙂
I only have a wordpress.com site. Is there an equivalent program to Essential Grid I can use?
Thanks for commenting! That’s a great question 🙂 You’ll need to have a self-hosted, WordPress.org site in order to use plugins.
I am really interested in this essential grid, but when I do a search on my wordpress plugin it does not come up. I realize I can download it from the site, but I am wary as it costs money and I am not sure if it is compatible with my version of wordpress. I am using 4.9.2. Suggestions?
Does your theme have column shortcodes? (If not, this plugin should be compatible https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/column-shortcodes/)
You could just use those, set up a 3 column page and put your thumbnails in those columns. The thumbnails link to the PDF and bam! Library 😉
Thanks Cat, I ended up getting the essential grid plugin and it is working great. Although, now that you mention the other tip, I could have done that as well. Appreciate the help.
It is a plugin you have to buy- I think it was 24 bucks. So, google Essential Grid and I think you’ll see where to buy it, or there’s a link the post to do so. I hesitated to spend too, but I found it to be very helpful.
I have a hiccup- I used the grid to make my library, then I used it to create a collection of posts, and now I’m trying to use it, just a few days after creating the last grid and no matter what I cannot get the grid to show up. I can’t figure it out, Melyssa. What the heck would make the grid just appear as [ess_grid alias="shrub posts"] and not as the actual grid. I pasted the shortcode in the Text section, not the visual section. Thanks for the help!
I had this same challenge and it was a conflict with one of my plugins. Once I removed the plugin, it appeared perfectly. The bummer is the plugin conflict was with Pin Button Attraction and I cannot find any similar pinterest plugin that does all that Pin Button Attraction does! But I ultimately had to choose between the two and I stayed with Essentials Grid.
The way to detect if you have a plugin issue is to deactivate each plugin (it is a pain) one by one and each time try to see if Essentials Grid works – when it does, you have found the conflict!
Good luck! 🙂
This is THE most helpful video ever. Just downloaded! Thank you so much!
So happy to hear that, Lela! 🙂
hello melyssa,
I recently purchased the essential grid. I made the grid image 3:4, but I get a white space on the right side… The image won’t fit in the window…
Thank you so much Melyssa! This was so helpful 🙂
You’re so welcome, Chelsea! Good luck with creating your library 🙂
Thanks for the great video, Melyssa! 🙂 How do you get the paragraph of copy to appear above the grid on your resource library page? I have my grid in place but my intro copy is appearing below the grid and I cannot figure it out!
Hey Stacy! You’ll need to copy and paste the Essential Grid short code below your text. Make sure you’re in the HTML editing area so that you can put the short code underneath. I hope that helps!
Thanks Melyssa! That’s exactly what I did, so I’m thinking it’s a funky WordPress issue I’ll need a programmer for. Thanks for responding so quickly 🙂
Thank you for this comprehensive overview, Melyssa! Thankfully my theme already had shortcodes built in (I found mine in the Appearance tab.) I wasn’t pleased originally with how my Resources Library was laid out, but now with everything sorted into columns by type (Worksheets, Workbooks, and Guides) everything is much more organized. I was even able to add in a bounce animation upon load… yay!
Nice job Lucy 🙂 Keep it up!
Thank you for this tutorial Melyssa! This was EXACTLY what I was looking for 🙂
No problem Sara-Rae! I’m so glad you liked it 🙂
Perfect. This is exactly what I was going to ask about during tomorrow’s call. I have SO MUCH info to share. Years ago, I had a freebie library, yet now I am on a whole new launch. And whew – when I think of all the programming work that went into setting it up all those years ago, I was dreading it, yet knew it was the right path. —- Enter, Melyssa and her post! Love Essential Grid – technology is making my life so easy! I feel spoiled! You are wonderful for sharing so much! Thank you!
Yay! I’m so glad you liked it, Maiya 🙂 It sounds like you have lots of great stuff to create so best of luck and please keep us posted on your progress!
I will!
Melyssa, totally thank you for creating this video. When I first saw your resource page, I knew I wanted one, but I didn’t know there was a tool to help create it. After watching half your video, it took me less than five minutes to order the plugin. At first I was going to post my documents for public access, but your point about making it available to subscribers is so on point. I can’t wait to share my page with them. I can’t thank you enough.
YAY! You’re awesome for taking such quick action, Bakari 🙂 Best of luck with your resource library and please do keep me posted on your progress!
Hi Melyssa, I finally launched my free sewing library and it has been great. I used to receive 1-3 new subs regularly, but not daily. In the last 2 days I’ve received 176 new subs, and now have a list of over 2,000 subscribers. And those that were already on my list are really appreciative to have all my freebies in one place. I just wanted to thank you for being so generous and sharing your knowledge, Melyssa. I’ve learned so many valuable things from you. Thank you so much!
WOW those are amazing results, Katrina! I’m so proud of you and I’m so happy that you took action on the tips :] Best of luck with everything else and please keep me posted on your progress!
Katrina…I’m a current subscriber to your blog and LOVE the new feature you’ve added. I’m doing your pattern course and love that all the lessons are now posted in one place, and I no longer have to refer to my email notices for the info. You did a great job and Melyssa Griffin is awesome, right?!!!!
Hi B. It’s such a small world. Thank you for subscribing and I’m glad you love the library. Yes, Melyssa is awesome! I would never have thought of doing a library if it weren’t for her. I can’t wait to add more stuff.
What a brilliant idea and it means that your new subscribers come straight back to your website, not go off and read the downloadable – never to return.
Exactly! Thanks for the comment, Sally, and best of luck with everything! 🙂
Yes!! This is exactly what I’ve been needing for my blog. Just installed the plugin and can’t wait to get started. Thank you!!
Great job taking action, Dana! Good luck and please keep me posted on your progress 🙂
YOU ARE THE BEST! Seriously! You really explain and go in detail in the right way and makes it sooo easy for me to just go ahead and set up my library weeee ! Thank you!
That makes me so happy to hear! Thanks for sharing your success with me, Laura 🙂
This is fantastic! You are such a resource to bloggers and entrepreneurs. Thank you so much for following your passion 🙂
Hey Mary! Thanks so much for the kind and encouraging words. I really appreciate it 🙂
Can I use UberGrid instead of Essential Grid? Thanks for the outstanding help, you are amazing!
I’ve personally never used UberGrid but if it does the same thing as Essential Grid, I don’t see why not 🙂
Hi Melyssa! First off, thank you for all of the resources =^_^= !! Quick question about resource libraries for those of use with tutorials from years of blogging: I just recently completely rebranded, and I was thinking of creating a resource library with new opt-in content as well as some tutorials that I have previously posted. Should I just start up a new resource library for new (and from now on) tutorials only? Is it tacky to create “opt-ins” for previous freebies? Thanks for your input!!!!
kat,
sewchibidesigns.com
I don’t think your readers would complain if your resource library had even more resources in it 🙂
As long as the content is all relevant and you can keep your branding consistent for your older and newer content, I think you should definitely include your previous freebies as well!
Was just thinking about this and before i asked the question in the Blog + Biz BFFs group, i decided to search on here. So very helpful and I am glad it is in WordPress also. It seems like everyone is using Squarespace so all tutorials and information is for that now. Thanks again!
Yay! I’m so glad this was helpful for you, Tamara! Best of luck and please let me know if you have any questions at all 🙂
Hey Melyssa, I love this post, thank you so much, seriously. You make it so easy to blog!
Thank you so much for the kind words, Victoria! Best of luck and please keep me posted on your progress 🙂
I almost posted this exact question about 30mins ago on your fb page about how do i see more than one ‘free content’ without having to subscribe every time and if i subscribe again am i going to get a double up on emails.
time to check out your library! thank you thank you!
p.s this made me realise I didn’t see the email from yesterday – checked it and it was in junk
Hey Mikaela! I noticed that your email wasn’t confirmed yet so I just resent a confirmation email for your approval. Once you do that, my emails should get through to you with a much higher success rate 🙂
p.p.s just letting you know, I also signed up for your free resources (I hope this doesn’t mean I get double of the same emails) and that also went to junk.
I have recently signed up to a few subscribe lists and none of the other ones have gone to junk. Hope this is something you can fix so you don’t lose others.
I like using Essential Grid on my blog & it was easy to follow your tutorial, but have 1 issue. If my pdf is more than one page, only the first page is showing up to print and not the others. My pdf’s aren’t showing up for print in Adobe Acrobat. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I have watched and rewatched and I just cannot get my image to pull up the pdf. When I click on the icon, it goes to a new page on my site with the image, but no link to the pdf. I LOVE YOUR COURSE!!! But right now, I am stuck fighting with Essential Grid!!
Another great post Melyssa 🙂 great tutorial.
you have convinced me to buy it.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the kind words, Paulo! Best of luck setting up your resource library and please keep me posted on your progress. 🙂
hi Melyssa, love this tutorial and am testing my new grid – but when i click on the images, it just takes me to a new page on my site and only shows me the jpg, not the pdf. Could this be to do with my wordpress theme? I have tested a few times- if I create the element withe pdf link, and don’t include an image, you can get the download – but then it looks terrible – just plain grey boxes on the resources page. Is there an essential grid helpline?! Lol xx
Yeah! The same thing is happening to me Louise!
Sorry for the delay, Louise! Were you able to figure this issue out?
hi Melyssa and Gracie – sadly not – I ended up contacting the helpdesk -long story short, they took my website down for 48 hours (they were trying to fix it and ‘lost’ a file) and I had to go to Go Daddy to get it restored – the helpdesk for Essential Grid basically closed my ticket and said they had spent too much time on it already and rather than try to fix it again, they apologised and refunded!!! I think whatever happened raised a tech error in their plugin which they then had to do a patch or release on. I could forward you all the emails but really… Anyway, it was a very horrible 48 hours. ANd I still have no protected resource library 🙁
Oh gosh! I’m so sorry that you had that kind of experience with them. I hope their new patch/release will allow you to create a protected resource library but if you don’t want to use them, I can’t blame you either. Tech issues are so frustrating and I wish I could help more but I hope you’re able to find a solution soon. Good luck, Louise.
The tutorial was fantastic, but sadly, there was no magic at the end. All I get is a pink stripe where the grid should be. I have in a ticket in with tech support. I followed the tutorial step by step, twice, so I’m sure it’s not the tutorial, but something on my blog messing things up (yet again).
Oh no! Sorry to hear about the technical difficulties. Hopefully the Essential Grid team is able to help you. Please keep us posted on what the fix is. 🙂
Stephanie, its not the tutorial – I think they need a patch or something on the grid. Good luck with the support team!
You’re right. They said there was an issue they would have to fix in the next update. They did a temporary patch to get me (and everyone else with the same problem) up and running until then. 🙂
First I have to say…their tech support is beyond awesome. Seriously, they were fantastic!
There were 2 issues:
1) The JQuery library was missing on my site (I have no idea what that means). They fixed it for me by the next night.
2) When I clicked on the link button of a resource in my library, it wouldn’t come up as a printable. Tech support said it looked like there was an issue that would have to be addressed in a future update, so they added a temporary fix to the plugin’s core files…and the PDF opens perfectly now.
Again, their tech support was awesome! 🙂
That’s amazing to hear, Stephanie! I’m so glad they were able to help you through the bugs. I hope your resource library goes well! 🙂
I can’t wait for my resource library to be ready for the masses! 😉 They really were fabulous. I wish every company’s tech support was that patient and helpful.
Hi Melyssa! Do you have any suggestions for a grid plugin that isn’t a premium one? Since I’m still relatively new as a blogger, I’m a little hesitant to pay for Essential Grid until I know if a resource library is going to be a good option for my site!
Hi Mauri! I actually don’t know of a free alternative to Essential Grid but I hope you find the best tool for your site. 🙂
Ok, thanks for your response!
Hi Melyssa! I played around with creating a resource library and ultimately decided to just invest in Essential Grid. My husband and I were following your tutorial on setting it up, but for some reason the grid won’t show up on the page where we inserted the short code. In the Essential Grid plugin, we edited everything and got a preview of my gallery. We then copied the short code to the text view of the page editor, but nothing will display on the page – it’s completely blank when I look at it in preview mode (it’s currently a draft – I won’t publish it until I like the look of the grid on it). Did you ever run into this issue?
Hi Melyssa, i have bought this plugin but found there is some issue with it. Since when i click in the Link icon the PDF is not download, but instead i am redirected to the image URL.
I have contacted support, but if you have any idea what is the issue i would be glad.
thanks.
Paulo, the same thing happened to me! Did you ever get a response? I contacted support, as well but haven’t heard back yet. Ugh!
Hi Eden,
Below is the sokution for tge problem:
well i have received the solution to it from support 🙂
follow this guide, using the part 2) Link to Custom URL , i have tested and its working like a charm.
below is the article about it:

Thanks so much for following up with the solution, Paulo! We really appreciate you doing that. 🙂
you are welcone Melyssa.
As i normally say “Sharing is Caring” ✌
Thank you, Paulo. I had the same problem and this worked for me.
And thank you, Melyssa! This post and the entire video were so helpful and easy to follow 🙂
Hi Elizabeth,
You are most welcome.
Thanks for this Paulo, this helped me! You’re better at this than their own support 😉 Much appreciated! Penelope xox
Hi Penelope,
You are most welcome
Thanks Paulo! After hours of mucking around trying to get my pdf to show up instead of the same media cover image I found your post & used it successfully to sort it out… yay! 🙂
Melyssa, how do you get your attached pdf etc to open in a seperate page so that the viewer doesn’t have to leave your website? Many thanks
Yay! I’m so glad you were able to figure it out okay, Julie. In regards to my PDFs, they just automatically open in a separate page so I’m not sure how to turn it on or off. Hopefully yours will do that too!

Oh I’ve never heard of that issue before. I would definitely recommend reaching out to their support team and seeing if they know what’s wrong. Good luck, Mauri!
Thanks so much for all the information on this! I’m curious — does Essential Grid track download statistics (ie. how many people download a file, which users download it)? We’re trying to use our Content Library as a marketing tool to capture leads and use statistics to target sales.
I don’t believe you’d be able to track statistics with Essential Grid. There may be another plug-in you can use or maybe you can hire someone to install some type of tracking tool in order to see these numbers though. Good luck!
Is there a blog post where you disclose your email marketing strategy? When they opt in, you send a welcome email. What about follow up emails? Also, if someone downloads an opt in for a specific freebie, how do you approach the email series there?
Hi Katy! I don’t have a blog post for that but I do share some of my email marketing strategies from time to time in my FB group. If you’re on my email list now, I’ll definitely keep you posted on when I talk about that topic again.
In the meantime, the FB group is a great resource for email marketing questions. Pop in there and feel free to start a thread to get your questions answered. 🙂

Hello Melyssa,
Thank you for sharing this thing!
I am launching a free resource library to up my email list gaming. It will be easier for me to offer different freebies when they are all in the vault <3 Thanks again1
God Bless,
Jan Limark | Brotherly Creative
That’s awesome, Jan! Keep up the great work! 😀
Thank you for sharing. This is very helpful esp for newbie like me ????
No problem! Best of luck to you and please keep me posted on your progress. 🙂
Love this Melyssa!
I created my HERO Toolkit resource library last year for healthy living/personal development junkies, thinking I was being all cool and unique.
But then I find your post and see that I’m not alone haha.
Will definitely check out the plugin 🙂
You ARE cool and unique! 😉
Thanks for the comment and best of luck with your resource library, Luke!
Melyssa! Thank you so much for sharing this detailed information on how to set this up!! I love your resource library set up, so I was excited to find this. I do have a question. So I set everything up as you instructed. It all works except when I click on the download button it goes to a picture of the image I used (which appears by itself on my resource library page) and it doesn’t download the pdf. I checked (in edit element) and I have it linked to my pdf in the media library. I saved everything, and tried it a couple times, but it’s still not downloading my pdf. Any ideas!? (anyone) 🙂
Hi Karen! Are you making sure to upload the PDF to your WordPress account and then pasting that URL link into the “Link To:” section? That should do the trick! If that doesn’t work, you might want to reach out to Essential Grid to see if they can help you with a potential bug. Good luck!
Thanks for your response Melyssa! Yes, I did make sure that it was uploaded to my WordPress account. I thought I would try just linking it to dropbox but that didn’t work, so I linked it back to the WordPress site and it still just brings me to the image and not the actual pdf. I will reach out to Essential Grid. Thanks so much!
How strange! Hopefully Essential Grid can help you out and please let us know what they say. 🙂
Hey Melyssa, so an update on the Essential Grid issue. I received an email yesterday with these instructions:
1. Please make sure that you use Version 2.0.9.1 of the plugin and then download a zip file and unzip it.
2. Upload the unzipped file to your website server via FTP or other means to the following folder that they listed.
My issue now is that I don’t have that version of Essential Grid. I purchased it a few days ago and it’s a newer version: 2.1.0.2. I’m unsure how to get the older version since it was purchased. They didn’t give me that info. So I’m waiting to hear back from them. I will let you know what they say. 🙂
Ah, how confusing but I’m glad they’re responsive and have a solution for you. Fingers crossed they can send you the older version! Thank you very much for the update. 🙂
Mine is also 2.1.0.2 and that’s the version I updated with the zip file they provided. 🙂
I’m so glad you told me that! It worked!! They need to update their directions, probably to say, make sure you have 2.0.9.1 or newer! Such a relief. Thanks so much! 🙂
Hello, I am having the same issue as you. I cannot get a donwload, just an enlargement. Did they have to send you a new file? Would you mind passing along the contact information to me please? Thank you!
Hi Karen, I’m having the same issue as you and I went through the entire video twice. I completely deleted my first attempt and deleted all of the images from my WordPress media library, renamed them, then started over from scratch and had the same results as you both times. There’s a comment further down from Paulo with a solution that didn’t work, either. I’m about to start from scratch for the 3rd time and take screenshots that I can send to Essential Grid so they can (hopefully) figure out the issue. I’ve had my WP site for over a year and feel like I know my way around WP fairly well, so I just wanted to let you know I don’t think it’s just you. 🙂 I’ll let you know if I find a solution! erin
Hey Erin, thanks for sharing this with me! It helps to know that I’m not the only one that is having this problem. If you do hear from Essential Grid, I would love to hear what they say. Like you said, I watched the video several times to get the steps down and followed it exactly. I will see if what Paulo suggests will work for me in the meantime. Good luck with it, hope you figure it out soon! 🙂
Hi Karen, Essential Grid confirmed it’s an issue on their end. They provided a temporary code as a fix and said they’d work on it for a future update. Just contact Essential Grid’s customer support and let them know you’re trying to follow Melyssa’s tutorial and they’ll send a temporary code to you. I haven’t tried the temporary fix yet, so I can’t confirm whether or not it works. I will try later tonight! Thanks, e
Hi Erin, So I did get a response with instructions to “make sure” I have an older version of the plug in. So my questions is how do I get that older version?? They didn’t provide it and since I purchased it, I can’t just download an older version. Then I’m supposed to download a zip file and that is supposed to fix it. But I’m stuck at “make sure you have the older version” part. Arg, frustrating. Did you get it to work yet?
I think it’s safe to say that if your version isn’t working that it must be an older version. 🙂 With the new zip file they provided, mine is now working properly. (If I had to do it all over again, I think I would have selected a different plugin because that ate up entirely too many hours out of my week!!!) Good luck!! e
No, actually my version is a newer version. Mine is 2.1.0.2. They are saying I need to make sure I have 2.0.9.1, which is older. What version do you have? Would you mind sharing your fix? I have still not heard from anyone. It’s frustrating as my launch of my new site is waiting on this to work.
So, I’m fairly new to blogging. This is a new site for me. It hasn’t gone live yet. Could that be the issue? It has a link and it’s all set up but hasn’t launched yet.
Tks for the great info! I’m stocking my freebie library so I can provide a password access to my subscribers. I have my password protected page set up (I’m using WordPress) and a single password. My question is will my subscribers still have access if they unsubscribe? Will they just be able to go to the library and enter the password (there is only 1 password for the page) and still be able to access it? Thanks 🙂
Yes, as long as someone has the password, they’ll have access to the resource library. Don’t worry about them at all – just focus on providing value to the people who are subscribed to your list. 🙂
I appreciate your fast reply, answer and advice 🙂 Thank you! Will get working on my page 🙂
Hi this is so good! thank you! I use sitebuilder and I don’t think I can password protect the page (I also want people to be able to see what’s on the page but not be able to access the downloads to entice them to subscribe). Could you password protect the actual PDF or word doc etc do the job instead? I’m not sure if you can password protect PDFs or JPEGs like you can word docs?
I also wanted to put some things like infographics for why they should outsource work and tips for productivity, do you think this could be included in the free resource library? with useful websites, but not sure how that would work with a free resource library, or whether it is only used for workbooks, e-books and templates etc?
Thank you for great post!
Hi Daniella! I’ve never password protected an individual PDF or Doc before but this article might be able to help you out: https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/create-a-password-protected-download-file-6838
If the goal of your infographics is to be shared, I wouldn’t put them behind a password protected wall.
I hope that helps! 🙂
Very frustrated. After 4 hours the download button doesn’t work – all it does is take me to the file/image page. I see TONS of comments below with the same issue and no fixes have worked. I’m not spending another 4 hours when I could have made a product in this time. This was my first experience with a tutorial from your site – very disappointed.
Melyssa is not the one you should be directing your disappointment at. You paid for a product that has been broken for half a year now. You should be mad at the guys that made Essential Grid, not at Melyssa. That being said, I was given a patch to fix the issue and I fixed it in less than 5 minutes. If you’re interested and you haven’t given up on it altogether, let me know and I’ll give you the patch and the instructions.
I found Melyssa last summer and I have learnt SO much from her in this time. All her advice has always been top notch. There’s not a single thing Melyssa has ever done with ill will or with deceptive intentions. You can learn a lot from her if you stop blaming her for things that are out of her reach.
Hi Lucia! I’m interested in the patch, could you please send it to me?
Hi Chiara! Yes, I can send it to you. But where exactly? Through a contact form on your website? Or where?
That’s very kind of you, Lucia! Thank you!!!
Yes, feel free to send it through my contact form 🙂
could you send me the patch as well? Caralpalmer@gmail.com
Hi Cara! I’m so sorry, I read your message at night and completely forgot until now. Here are the instructions to fix it https://www.themepunch.com/faq/download-link-does-not-work/ 🙂
Thank you. ????
Hi! I used this video and have my Resource Library all set up! However, I cannot figure out how to customize what my viewers see before they have the password or before they have typed in the password. How can I do this?
From what I’ve seen, many people have two different pages for this. One where they send in potential susbcribers, you have text and images of what the library has in it plus an opt-in form (for example: yourdomain/free-resources). And then once they subscribe, they get a link to the real library (yourdomain/resource-library).
It can be useful if you don’t figure out how to edit the password protected page.
I’m so excited to get started with my freebie library. Can anyone suggest a program to make my freebies look professional? I would like to make checklists with radial buttons, add images and quotes.
Essential Grid link to post not working:
Theme Punch, the maker of Essential Grid has a little FAQ on the problem. https://www.themepunch.com/faq/download-link-does-not-work/
Thanks so much Jenny. This worked perfectly! I had a newer version of the plugin and it still worked. Much appreciated!
Is there a free plugin similar to the Essential Grid plugin?
Hey Natasha! I don’t know of a free alternative to Essential Grid but if you find one, it’d be awesome if you let us know. 🙂
It’s not free, but if you’re using a content builder like Visual Composer or Thrive Content Builder, you can create a grid for your content, easy peasy 🙂
Thank you SO much Melyssa. I’ve been working on getting my biz to go online for 5 years now, with minimal success…since I discovered your work (I took your Pinterest course) I FINALLY am seeing some growth! This tutorial is fantastic. Now creating my free resource library—that is LONG overdue. Thank you!
Woop woop! Amazing job, Kim! Keep up the great work! 😀
Hi everyone! I wanted to share about the issue with links not downloading. When I copied and pasted the url for my download in the “Meta” space for the item, that worked for me! If you need something more detailed please let me know but hopefully that makes sense!
Thanks so much for sharing this tip with us, Mella! That’s so kind and helpful of you. 🙂
If your download link is not working, here’s the link to their FAQ on how to fix it. https://www.themepunch.com/faq/download-link-does-not-work/
Thanks so much for sharing this, Clara. 🙂
Seriously awesome website and resource center, Melyssa! The latter is truly what caught my interest, and your humorous and fun writing has kept me here now for (over?) an hour. Not only have I bookmarked your website under my folder for “seriously important” links… 🙂 but I have also been inspired by your writing style and website: I have some clear ideas on my own blog now. Thanks! I WILL be back!
That’s AMAZING to hear, Gary! I’m so glad my posts have been helpful for you. Best of luck with everything and please keep me posted on your progress. 🙂
This was awesome! Love the idea of a free resource center. Quick follow up question – do you still use Leadpages to deliver specific content upgrades that you include in blog posts? Or do you just refer people to the free resource library? I know I’ve seen some LeadBoxes on your site, so I was curious was you’d recommend! Thanks for providing such awesome content 🙂
Yep! I still use LeadPages/LeadBoxes to deliver content upgrades. When someone opts in, they’ll receive the content upgrade along with an indoctrination email containing the password for the rest of the resources. 🙂
So it looks like Essential Grid still isn’t working without doing outside updates. The meta block didn’t allow my pdfs to show up either so that might not be a fix. I’m trying to figure out how to use the instructions on their site but I’m getting no where. Does anyone have a tutorial on fixing the download link?
This was so helpful, thank you!
Glad to hear it, Kristen! 🙂
how do you tag the users downloads once you give them access to the library? For example, if i want to tag a download as “list building freebie” to send them my email sequence related to my list building services- how would i go about doing that? I use convert kit if that helps and want to distinguish between the types of offers the user is downloading to send them personalized messages!
In ConvertKit, you would need to tag “list building freebie” downloaders and then create an automation rule to send them down the relevant sequence that you created. I hope that helps and best of luck! 🙂
What program do you create your resources in? I installed Essential Grid on my blog but still have to actually create the resources!
I used Apple Pages to make mine, then I create a nice cover in Canva.
Thank you! I’ve never used Apple pages… is there a certain template you use?
Apple pages works on a Mac. I think it depends what your freebie is going to be. I just created my own one and saved it as a template so all of my freebies are consistent.
Yay! Keep me posted on your progress, Allie! 🙂 There are many tools you can use to create your free resources. Canva is a free program that’s easy to use. You can also try Apple Pages, InDesign, or PhotoShop 🙂
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I have installed Essential Grid and uploaded my resources but when I click on the download button it take me to my thumbnail page instead of the PDF. I’ve checked the Post Link and made sure it’s pointing to post in the skin settings but I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Hi, Jilanne! It appears that this is a bug with Essential Grid, and others in our community have noticed it too! I am so sorry about this! Someone referenced a link, to potentially patch the error, but I have not personally tried it: https://www.themepunch.com/faq/download-link-does-not-work/
Let me know if this works for you 🙂
Thanks Melyssa! I ended up going in the Online BFF Facebook Group and found someone had posted this link –> https://www.themepunch.com/essgrid-doc/grid-item-links/#custom-links
It worked a charm – so hopefully it will help someone else too!
Yay! I’m happy to hear that, Jilanne! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Melyssa! Do you know if there is a way to tell how many of each freebie are being downloaded?
Hi, there! 🙂 Unfortunately as far as I know there is not a way to tell how many are being downloaded!
Me today: I need to create a free resource library, but how?
*ask Google*
Google: check out Melyssa Griffin’s tutorial!
You’re amazing. Thanks for showing me your ways!
Love it, Emily! 🙂 Thank you for reading the tutorial!
First of all, thank you so much for this tutorial! It is beyond helpful! Do you have any ideas on how to upload SVG files? They don’t work with WordPress.
I got a question. I am creating a free resource section I am using mailchip to send a welcome email with the password. They keep asking for my list of email subscribers. I was going to upload them but I don’t want to send them the welcome email if they didn’t opt in for my resources. So what do you suggest I do? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Hi Melanie, could you create a different automation sequence that isn’t tied to your welcome email? So in other words, create a separate email list segment – so that when someone subscribes to the free resources, they’re added to a different segment with a unique automation in place that delivers the password. I recommend starting with this resource, and reaching out to Mailchimp’s customer service team if you get stuck! https://kb.mailchimp.com/automation/create-an-automation
Thanks Melyssa. I tried that but still isnt working. How did you create yours without any subscribers? That is the point in only sending out an email for people that only opt in for my resources right? Or should I use the list of all my subcribers that I already have? Im sorry for all the questions I am new at using mailchimp. I did try getting help from mailchimp and werent able to help me.
Hi Melanie, You have to create a list first, even if you don’t have subscribers in it. So you could create a list called Resource Library, and everyone who signs up for your library will be added to that list 🙂
Unless you’re planning to make your resource library a paid membership, I’d sent it to current subscribers, too. The aim is (usually) for it to be a perk of being part of your newsletter list, so you don’t want to EXclude the people who have already been faithful subscribers. 🙂
A million thank yous <3
You’re very welcome, Nicole! 🙂
You’re the best! Thank you so much for this tutorial. Before Googling this topic I legit thought to myself “I really hope Melyssa Griffin has done a post about this” haha! Thanks for making all your info so simple to understand. Can’t wait to download the plugin and get working on my resource library!
Haha, so happy you found this post, Kendall! 🙂 Keep me posted on your progress.
Thanks for replying! Just created my free resource library using this video as a step-by-step guide. Thanks again for this post. You made it super easy to follow and the Essential Grid plugin looks great!
Hi, I have set the library up okay but my images are a bit blurry. I made them 300x450px. Any ideas please?
Hi Angela, Hmm… I am not sure why that could be happening. Are you saving them in a high resolution .JPG or .PNG? I’m so sorry this is happening.
Thanks for your reply Melyssa, I have reduced the size slightly and they are now much better 🙂
So glad to hear it, Angela! 🙂
Hi, I am a bit confused … I have set up my resource library and am now sorting my newsletter. When someone signs up to my main opt-in ie resource library their name goes on my email list. However, if they sign up for a content upgrade in a blog post, how do I stop their name being put on the email list for a second time? Thanks
Hi Angela! 🙂 By default, your email service provider won’t add that person’s name twice, but it’s okay for an email to ‘live’ in different lists. For example, you might have abc@xyz.com that is part of your general mailing list, but maybe they download a content upgrade about time management. They could also be added to a list for time management. So next time you want to send an email specifically to people who were interested in time management, you have a separate list. 🙂 And your email service provider won’t send the same email multiple times to the same person, even if you select both lists – they will de-duplicate it automatically. I hope this helps. 🙂
Melyssa, Thank you for your reply and answering my query, it all makes sense now! 🙂
I’m in the homemaking niche, and that gets a little awkward because some readers want “all the things,” and some are only interested in one sub-category (health, but not parenting; or parenting but not cleaning, etc.).
I’m really wanting to switch to a resource library setup for a lot of reasons, but I’m concerned about losing the ability to tag downloaders by topic so I don’t email them about topics they’re not interested in. Is there a nont-excessively-complicated method I’m overlooking for tagging subscribers based on what they download, if everything is in one place like this?
Hi Melyssa! I’m sorry if you get two comments from me… it seems like the first one never went through.
I want to set something like this up for my readers, but I am concerned about the password getting shared. I am in a niche that has a lot of close-knit communities, especially in Facebook groups, that I think would likely result in the password getting out for non-subscribers to be able to download the free goodies. Is this something you have been concerned about in the past, and how do you prevent/minimize it? Should I change the password a few times a year? Or just not worry about it?
Thanks for your insights! I love your blog and regularly listen to your podcast. I was so happy when I saw you’d written a guide about this!
Hi Adrienne! I wouldn’t worry about people sharing the password to your resource library. If they do, then they do but I promise it won’t happen often. And the people who get the password who are not subscribed to your email list will get massive value from your content and hopefully hop into your email list later. Good luck! 🙂
Hi Melyssa, can I please just ask, do you upload all of your content upgrades into your resource library? If someone clicks onto a content upgrade within one of your posts, do they go on a separate list from your main resource library opt-in? If so, do they just get the link to download their freebie or do they also get access to your resource library? I am sure that I am confusing myself ha ha. Thanks in advance and for your patience lol 🙂
Hi Angela! 🙂 Only those that sign up for the resource library get access to the library. But I also have some other content upgrades sprinkled around the site, and if they sign up for just those, they would only get that freebie. I have multiple ‘segments’ within my email list, but everyone gets added into a main/primary list no matter what they opt in for. I hope this helps. 🙂
Hi Melyssa, thank you so much for clarifying that point, it is so much clearer now! Many thanks 🙂
