Weekly Wishes

Hey there and welcome to Weekly Wishes, where I talk about the goals or challenges I want to achieve this week and also let you share your own through the link-up below. I’d love for you to join me and add a link to your own goal-oriented post! It’s a great way to make new friends from around the world and gain some motivation to achieve your weekly aspirations.

Hey y’all! Want to know what I ate for breakfast this morning? (You do). I had rolled eats, chia seeds, greek yogurt, and strawberries. I looked at my plate and thought, “who am I?” I’ll admit, the rolled oats and chia seeds are new to my palette. I’m trying to eat healthier and find things that nourish my body. I’m not big on the rolled oats though — anyone have good recipes?

Trying to eat healthy this week may be coming as a result of how much unhealthy deliciousness I ate while in Miami. My dad took us to some crazy great restaurants, so naturally I had to eat twice my weight in food, right? Also, here’s a view of the hotel room we stayed in. This was the view from the balcony, which made me realize that I need a balcony overlooking water and beautiful things one day. It’s so peaceful!

Tell me about your weekend! What did you do?

Last Month’s Wishes

  1. Downsize. Still working on this, but making some progress! I am the kind of person who, when I downsize one thing, I add on another. It’s hard for me to want to relax sometimes, but I need to keep striving at it.
  2. Go to my first blog conference! Did it! You can read about my blog conference experience here.
  3. Order packaging and miscellaneous supplies for my Etsy shop. I did it! 😀
  4. Clean my car. haha this first started as a weekly wish, then became a monthly wish, and now has been incomplete for over 5 weeks. (In reality, it’s been incomplete for over 5 months, but let’s not got there). I did however start thinking about taking my car in to get serviced and cleaned. I even looked up small, handheld vacuums on Amazon yesterday. Baby steps, right?

This Month’s Wishes

  1. Write for fun. I write on this blog almost everyday, which is also mostly for fun. But I think I mean a different kind of fun. A no-one-but-me-will-read-it kind of fun. I’ve also been getting weirdly fluid ideas for a potential novel and something tells me I need to word-vomit them all onto paper otherwise they might vanish.
  2. Go to Alt Summit. AHHHH!
  3. Open a savings account. I used to have a savings account, but one day it just disappeared. I actually probably closed it years ago, but saying it disappeared makes me the victim here, right? Clearly I am concerned for my finances and the Evil Bank Gods just closed my account for me — what was I to do? Anyways, now that I run my own business, I’ve found that one of the hardest part is saving for taxes and distinguishing spending money from tax money. Opening a savings account purely for taxes is probably something I should’ve done six months ago, but will definitely come in handy now.
  4.  Go to Corgi Beach Day! There’s this thing in California called “SoCal Corgi Beach Day” where literally hundreds of corgis and their owners gather at a local beach to hang out and derp around together.  There was one a few months ago, but I opted not to go because I didn’t know how Monja would be around other dogs. But lately he’s been going to a doggie daycare where he plays in a room of pups all day and has been getting great reports from the workers there, so I think he (meaning me) deserves to go to this here Corgi Beach Day. It’s at the end of June — I kind of can’t wait!

  1. Corina Nika says:

Got to alt! yes!! and savings account, yes that has been my goal for a few months now as well. and actually get to save money and not buy new stuff :/

  2. mariahelena says:

A savings account is always a good idea. The corgi beach day looks hilarious!

  3. Kate Hardy says:

I have always wanted to go to Alt Summit! Can’t wait to hopefully live vicariously through you with a recap? 😉 Most importantly, is your favicon in fact, a corgi?

  4. Alyson says:

hahaha a Corgi meet-up! How adorable!

  5. Ok so… you could take your breakfast, and do overnight oats. It’ll be thicker and the chia will gel which I like. My favorite overnight oats consist of rolled oats, chia seeds, milk, greek yogurt, peanut butter and banana. It’s so thick, creamy and delish. You could also get a chobani flips with the coconut yogurt and almond/chocolate nib toppings… add some rolled oats to that with chia seeds and let it set overnight for an almond joy overnight oats!

  6. A. Sparkle says:

Okay, I eat rolled oats almost every morning. First of all you *must* use milk (I prefer skim) instead of water. I also add brown sugar (sometimes honey), cinnamon, and when I’m feeling frisky I’ll add some blueberries or strawberries. Pop in it in the microwave and you’ll be good to go!

Oh, by the by, you should totally write for fun.. Why not? 🙂 and Miami looks awesome. I’m really in the traveling mood now.

  7. Omg, a Corgi beach day? So if we don’t all get a full play-by-play via instagram WITH a dedicated blog post I’m going to be heartbroken. So will Monja. Just saying. Also I’m with you on the car…I swore I’d keep it clean this semester and then I don’t know? I blacked out? I’m gonna be more hopeful for this week (month) >.>

  8. A savings account for taxes is a great idea! When I think about being self-employed in the future the whole tax thing produces makes me so anxious. Corgi Beach Day sounds like so much fun! I’d love to hear all about it when you go. And yes! Definitely write down what you’re thinking about for a novel. Those ideas can disappear. If you ever want to talk about writing, let me know. It’s one of my favorite topics. 🙂

    • Don’t let it scare you! Honestly, FILING taxes wasn’t that hard, it’s just been keeping my tax money separate from spending money, but with a separate account it should be a total cinch. 🙂

By the way, I downloaded Scrivener today! I started getting so many ideas that would flutter too quickly out of my head, so I thought I should sit down and actually write them out. I still need to go through the tutorial, but I’m really excited to get started! Thanks so much for the recommendation 🙂

  9. that view is gorgeous! I would definitely recommend starting a journal or grabbing a notebook [or two or three] to write ideas down. currently I have one book notebook, a journal, a planner, a blog notebook, and a sponsor tracking notebook. I realize some of these could be done digital, but I just love crossing things out and thinking on paper.

    • Yes! I’m so with you. I love writing and thinking on paper, too. But I also find that my thoughts get really disorganized because I think things out of order and the lack of organization bothers me so much that I decide I can’t use that notebook anymore haha. It’s really a predicament. But Crystal (below) recommend Scrivener. Have you heard of it? It’s digital, but it’s for writers and is supposed to be helpful for writing books! 🙂

  10. Johanna says:

Have you ever tried overnight oats? I put them in a mason jar, equal parts pats – milk – plain yoghurt, put them in the fridge overnight, and then eat them in the morning with a teaspoon of honey and some sort of fruit. I can’t do it every day, but when I do, I always enjoy it! I’m sure you could also use your coconut milk, and greek yoghurt instead of normal.

  11. Hi Melyssa! I’m linking up with Weekly Wishes for the first time this week, & I’m excited to make it part of my blog rotation. Thank you for inspiring me to set goals & achieve them 🙂 – Lauren

  12. I love that you were in Miami! I hope you enjoyed it 🙂

  13. Jean says:

Cheers to healthy food choices! 🙂 That view is so lovely, I want to be near a beach too. Seeing the beautiful sky and water everyday would be a huge dose of happiness. Good luck on your June goals, can’t wait to hear about them! 🙂
