October Goals

Hey there and welcome to Weekly Wishes, where I talk about the goals or challenges I want to achieve this week and also let you share your own through the link-up below. I’d love for you to join me and add a link to your own goal-oriented post! It’s a great way to make new friends from around the world and gain some motivation to achieve your weekly aspirations.

Happy Monday! I had a pretty laid back weekend filled with some movie watching (check out my thoughts on Boyhood), puppy cuddling, and shopping. As for September, it feels like it went by in a minute! Some highlights from the month were discovering a huge, nearby park with Monja, going to the Chinese Moon Festival in LA, painting (and actually enjoying the results!), going to Salvation Mountain + East Jesus, and opening up contributor applications here at TNC (did you apply yet?!)

Now that September is almost out of the picture, I am SUUPER excited for October to start! October is my favorite month of the year — there’s something about chilly weather and Halloween decorations that just feels like home to me. Monja’s birthday is also in October (two more weeks!!) and I can’t wait to celebrate when he turns two. My little critter is growing up! You can check out his first birthday party here. 🙂 Any fun ideas on how to celebrate a dog’s birthday?

How was your September?

I didn’t create monthly goals for September because I revamped my yearly goals instead. So we’ll just dive right into this month’s wishes!

This Month’s Wishes

  1. Hire some awesome contributors! I spent a long while going through each application last night (there’s still time to apply, don’t worry!), and I’m looking forward to finding a few contributors and building more of a team-like setting here.
  2. Plan something special for Monja’s birthday. I can’t wait to celebrate this dog. He means so SO much to me and I’d love for him to have a really fun, awesome day. A few days after his birthday, we’re also going to Corgi Beach Day. The theme is Halloween, so I’m on the hunt for a cute costume! Any cute dog costumes you know of?
  3. Make real progress on my eCourse. Over the past couple months, I’ve watched this idea morph from one thing to another several times. It feels organic and necessary to keep changing minor details, but now that I feel like I have a solid grasp on what I want it to look like, I hope to make some serious progress on content and getting it out there.
  4. Plan our trip to Portland! In early November, Paul and I are going to travel to Portland for a few days. We’re both really excited and love planning things — it’ll be so fun!

What are you wishing for this month?

    OMG. First link! 🙂

When my dog turned two, we went to the beach, got some cake and took pictures. That was all. A simple celebration really. I should be more creative next time. Btw, Happy birthday to Monja!

For Halloween, you can dress Monja as a cat. Har. XD

  2. Cori says:

I agree with you Mel; lately time goes by very quickly!
My September was a relaxed one but with lots of new ideas and projects ♥.

About your monthly goals; I can’t wait to hear more about your eCourse. Oh! And it’s almost Monja’s birthday! I’ll be looking forward some pictures of Monja’s Halloween costume 😀

    Have a great day Mel!

  3. I love setting short term goals to help with those long term fantasies we have floating off in the distance. I hope you make wonderful progress on your e-course!

    xo Rachel

  4. Setting monthly goals is something I just started doing this year and i’m so glad I have. I can’t believe how much more focused I am with having shorter term goals as oppose to big 12 monthly goals. Wonderful wish list for October, hope it’s the best month this year. 😉 x

  5. Ashley of Ashley Abroad says:

I can’t wait to see your e-course! And I’m excited about October too- I love all that is spooky! 🙂

  6. Kasey Decker says:

ohh I love puppy parties!! I’m sure he’ll absolutely adore whatever you do!

  7. My furbaby’s Birthday is coming up next week! If I think of anything fun I’ll post it. Can’t wait to see what you do:) Happy Monday!

  8. I love that you celebrate Monja’s birthday! That is so sweet and thoughtful of you!

  9. Love reading all of the weekly wishes today! It has helped inspire me to write down more goals for myself. Good luck with your ecourse, can’t wait to hear more about it.

  10. Alyson says:

Have so much fun in Portland! If you have some time and are in need of some down time, check out the Breitenush Hot Springs. That place is seriously amazing and does the body good for sure.

    Cheers,
    Alyson

Please forgive me, this is the first time I have ever participated in a linkup, and I don’t know how to find the link of the blogger who posted right before me. Help?

  12. Hope you have fun in Portland! You definitely need to take pictures and blog about it when you get there.

  13. Hsiao-Ting says:

I hear there’s some great eats in Portland! Jealous of you! I need to make a trip out there one day … Good luck on your goals for this month!

  14. It sounds like you had a fun September! And I hear you about October. It’s my favorite month, with the chilly fall weather and fall fashion and Halloween. Mina’s birthday is in October too! (Exactly a month after the day I brought her home.) 🙂 Good luck with your goals this week!

    • Aww! Mina and Monja could be BFFs…similar name, similar birthday! 🙂 Also, is Mina a King Charles Cavalier? I took a few “dog personality tests” (haha) before getting Monja, and surprisingly, almost all of them told me I was a near 100% match with a King Charles Cavalier, and should get that breed. I aaaalmost did! They seem so sweet! Then we really would have had similar dogs!

      • Yeah! She would love a canine buddy who would actually play with her. My sister’s grumpy old doxie is the dog that she sees the most and he growls at her if she tries to play with him. (He growls at most people who try to play with him, so she’s not alone in that.) And my friends all have somewhat unfriendly dogs too. Haha! I think Mina and Monja would hit it off and become the best of friends. 🙂 She is! That’s so cool that you scored a high match with them. I took those quizzes too and tried to answer them in a way that I was certain a miniature dachshund would be my top match (they weren’t even on my list) but I scored almost 100% for Cav’s on all of them too. They really are sweet dogs! All they want in life are tummy rubs. Mina’s really great with my niece and nephew too. She was at my sister’s house once and my niece had a friend over. I got a text with a picture and a note from my sister saying that my niece’s friend was holding Mina like a baby and rocking her in a rocking chair while my niece played lullaby on the piano. And she actually appeared to be totally content. 🙂 Were corgis on your list when you took the dog quizzes? From what I’ve heard, they seem like really sweet and fun dogs.

        • Aw! That’s so cute! I love when dogs are really sweet like that. Corgis were on my list, but I think they were more like a 75% match. I’d say they’re more headstrong and stubborn and I’m a little more passive, but Monja and I mesh swimmingly! Corgis are sweet and very funny. They have so much silly personality — I really love that!

  15. that’s awesome you’re working on another e-course… I think you and Erika did a great job with the last one. I’d be curious to hear more about how you put everything together. I’m excited to see things develop with the new contributors, and Monja’s birthday celebrations too 🙂

    • Thanks Jamie! I’m glad you enjoyed the last one. 🙂 I’m realizing now that it’s motivating when you do it with another person because you’re more accountable, but I think I just need to find that accountability within myself now! haha. I’d love to share my process of putting it together one day! Have a great week!

  16. Natalie Britton says:

Wonderful goals! I can’t wait to take your E-course once it’s out. Super stoked for that. Also, can’t wait to see what Monja is for Halloween! Here’s a hilarious Buzzfeed article to inspire you 🙂

  17. Heather K says:

How is it October already? I can’t believe it – got to work on my goals! Hopefully they’ll be up in the next day or so!! Love yours 🙂 can’t wait to hear about Portland – I’ve always wanted to go!

  18. Stacia says:

I’m really interested to see what direction you go in with your eCourse! Also, Portland is amazing. I’ve only spent a brief period of time there, but I really enjoyed it. Powell’s Bookstore is pretty amazing. You should definitely add it to your list! I literally got lost in it. 🙂

P.S. It’s not a birthday party, but have you see the too cute for words dachshund wedding video that’s been circulating? I shared it on my blog yesterday. It’s just too cute! Now I want to go in to animal wedding planning. haha! XD

  19. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the Monja’s birthday party! Portland is high on my to see list while we are on the West coast!

  20. Birthday bash is always fun! I have a feeling Monja would be soooo spoilt on that day. Holiday planning never fail to be exciting and definitely help motivation burn. Have fun planning!

  21. Dia says:

This is like classic Melyssa. I was having a brain fart and typed “October Goals” in google when I meant to find the url for my post on my tracking spread sheet lol then this came up and I was like, “I have to look.” It’s crazy in October 2014 your goal was to work on your e-course and now you’re like ruling the e-course world. Very inspiring.
