Cute front door!

Happy MARCH everyone! It’s crazy — and exciting — that spring is right around the corner. I can hardly tell with the gloomy, rainy weather we’ve been having here in Southern California, but hey, I’ll take it. 😉 February turned out to be a really good month and is giving me even more hope that 2015 will be an awesome year.

Some highlights? Well, I started the month in San Francisco, which was a nice little trip. I also went to a wildlife center and played with a Fennec Fox — the cutest! On Valentine’s Day, Paul and I celebrated with a cozy night in and a fancy pants dinner that we made at home. The month ended at my friend, Jessica’s, wedding this weekend (below) — isn’t she the cutest? (She’s also a contributor for TNC!). And lastly, I moved to Los Angeles! It took awhile to find a place to live, but I love my new apartment and the area I live in. It was worth the wait! And isn’t the front door (above) kind of cute? 🙂 It makes me happy whenever I see it!

Melyssa + Jessica

For work, I also had one of the busiest months of my little existence. I’m so grateful to see my business grow and it’s been such a fun (and tough!) process. To help with things, I hired a virtual assistant. I also legally changed The Nectar Collective into an LLC. Woo!

How was your February?

Cute corgi! :)

Last Month’s Goals

  1. Hire a virtual assistant! Sure did! What a help she’s been! 🙂
  2. Finish designing a new layout for TNC. For the most part, yes! But still working on some details. Designing for yourself is always a pain in the ass, isn’t it? Heh heh.
  3. Move to LA! Yes! More on that soon. 🙂

Goals for March

  1. Try co-working. I’m really interested in the idea of co-working, where you pay a membership fee to work in a large office-type space with other freelancers. There’s one in LA I’ve been eager to check out, so this month I plan to do that! Has anyone tried co-working?
  2. Reach 5,000 Instagram followers. This is a bit of a lofty goal, seeing as I currently only have about 3,900 followers, but I’d really like to work at this. I feel like I’ve been pretty passive about growing my Instagram so far (as in, I haven’t really done anything aside from posting pictures), but I’d like to encourage more of a community feel and find more of “my people.” Still working on how to do that, but now that it’s a goal, I have to figure it out, right? 😉 Shameless plug? If you like succulents/flowers, hand-lettering, or corgis, you can follow me here. 🙂
  3. Continue sending and refining a weekly newsletter. Have you noticed that we’ve been sending out a newsletter each week? This has been one of my goals for a looong time, so I’m stoked to finally see it happening (with the help of my VA!). I want to keep working at this and make it more awesome/useful/fun. If you’re interested in signing up (and receiving blogging/business/life tips), you can join 2,500 other subscribers here. Woo!
  4. Furnish my living room. Now that I’ve moved into a slightly bigger space, my apartment looks SO empty. My living room currently consists of some plastic storage boxes and Monja’s dog crate. Sexy. I’d really like to make it more cozy (and useable!), so a comfy rug and sofa are first on my list. I’ve been loving this rug and this or this sofa…but dang, furniture is so expensive!
  5. Travel somewhere! Paul and I have been talking about taking a road trip through some national parks and forests later this month, so hopefully we’ll make that happen! I need me some nature. 🙂

What are your goals for the month?

  1. Erika says:

Your front door is SO CUTE. Ah, I love it! Sounds like February was a big month for you! I for one have been loving your newsletters – they keep me finding old posts of yours I haven’t enjoyed yet. Have a great March Melyssa!

  2. Kat Kuehl says:

LOVE your front door! It really is adorable. Also, Monja’s cuteness is consistently overwhelming. Wishing you a great month! 🙂

  3. That front door is adorable! I am excited to see what you do with your new place!

  4. Stacia says:

Your new place looks super welcoming! Love your big goals for this month! Can’t wait to see where you end up traveling!

  5. Love the front door (and the vines, they’ll make it even better once they’re fully bloomed)!

  6. Oh my, I’m in love with that front door! It’s just so…cute and welcoming, which is exactly what a front door should be 🙂 Can’t wait to see where you end up going! I’m planning on adventuring somewhere myself 🙂

  7. Angela Tolsma says:

Co-working sounds like allot of fun! I would totally try it!! Have fun this month!

  8. They have a lot of cool co working spaces in NYC! I’ve visited and fallen in love a bunch of times. They normally have good discounts on professional development workshops too – and space if you ever want to plan TNC events too.

  9. Congrats on your move!! I love the vines around the front door! Best of luck on your goals!

  10. Hsiao-Ting says:

Yay! Congrats on your move to LA and yes, the door is so nice! I would be happy coming home to a door like that! I just followed you on Instagram to help you with one of your goals 😉 Good luck on your goals for this month!

  11. I love the door! The rest of the front entrance looks inviting and inspiring too. It looks like something you’d find in a movie or a book. 🙂 A friend of mine who freelances tried co-working and found it to be really helpful. She thought she’d love to sit in her apartment all day working by herself, but she decided that she needed to be around people more.

Congrats on your move and good luck with your goals this month!

  12. A. Sparkle says:

Congrats on finally making the move! The fun part (sometimes the heinous part) will be deciding where everything will go. 🙂 I like the idea of co-working. There are quite a few places around here in Atlanta that do that. If I was running my business full time I would totally do it! By the way, I love getting your newsletter. 🙂

  13. Co-working sounds like a great idea! I’m sure you will be more productive.

  14. That red door is gorgeous! Congrats on the new place, I know you are going to make it beautiful & inviting!

  15. esther julee says:

Congrats on your move to LA and the LLC! 🙂 I can’t believe Jess is married!! <3 <3 I've been thinking of hiring a VA lately too.

  16. Kati Rose says:

I’ve really been fascinated about the idea of co-working! I’m excited to read about your experience. Congrats on the new place and the LLC being official!

  17. Andleeb says:

The year started like normal for me. With few downs and I hope that in coming months there will be ups. I am wishing and praying for this to happen.
Between, its good idea to link with people( bloggers) like this. I love the entrance and congratulations for shifting to new place.

  18. I love, love, love your front door and congrats on your move! Jessica is adorable and looks like the happiest woman alive! I am also one of your new followers on Instagram, I hope you get your 5k! 🙂

  19. Congrats on your move! I think Monja is super duper happy (assuming this was taken after the move) about it. Heh. Have fun planning your road trip!!!

  20. Ashley Tukiainen says:

Love the photos! The door does look very inviting, and the photo of Monja made me giggle. I’ve never used a co- working office, but the folks over at Taste of Yum do, and mention it a couple times month in their blogs. Looks like t works for them!

  21. Congrats to Jessica and congrats for your move to LA! 🙂 Roadtrips are always the best, it’s amazing what you can find just a few hours away from home. Hope you have lots of fun 🙂

  22. I’m really tempted to try co-working too, there’s a great business centre just around the corner from me. Congratulations on your move!

  23. Katia E says:

Great goals! Be sure to share with us how your coworking experience goes, I’d love to know!
My goal is to make it through my last month of undergrad, holy moly!

  24. chelsea says:

Really like the monthly goals posts. They’re probably awesome for accountability, and helping to structure the month if need be. Good stuff. I’ll probably link up next week.

  25. Stephanie says:

Awesome goals. Do you have any tips on growing your Instagram following?

  26. Bravo on accomplishing last month’s goals! A best of luck to you in March. It’s so exciting watching The Nectar Collective grow! Well done, you! 🙂

  27. I need me some nature too. I am surrounded by dirty snow and dangerous icy roads. eek

  28. I’ve accepted that I just can’t design for myself. It’s too hard to tell myself no when I want to make “just one more” adjustment, or flip everything on its head, or combine seven disparate ideas into a Frankenconcept.

  29. The front door to you new place looks amazing! Good luck on all your goals this month 🙂

  30. Samsam says:

Congrats on the big move! I’m still waiting to hear back about a possible internship in the San Francisco Bay area…but oh how I would love to come to CA! I’ve never been and it’s one of the top items on my bucket list! Hope you’re enjoying the new place 🙂

  31. Gina Alyse says:

I love these! I have been noticing your newsletters and they have been wonderful! 🙂 I hope you are able to achieve all these goals this month and especially get in some fun things like traveling!

  32. Stephanie says:

Congrats on the move! I’ve looked into co-working spaces in my area but the costs were a little out of my budget right now so I think I’ll stick to home and coffee shops for now 🙂 Though I think the concept is super interesting. Have a wonderful week!
