The past couple weeks I’ve been feeling pretty “blah” about my bedroom. I never put much energy into decorating it because I’m usually working elsewhere and only see what a travesty it is when it’s bedtime and I’m too sleepy to care. The only furnishings in it are my bed (which, up until this weekend only had one sheet, no comforter!), a “nightstand” made from a storage box, a crooked painting, and an enormous dog crate. I’m actually laughing as I type this, because I’m pretty sure I just described a bachelor pad.
Now that the weather is getting a little cooler (meaning I probably need more than a single sheet heh), I thought it would be a good time to put some love into my bedroom and make it a place that I actually enjoy being. Here’s what I’m envisioning: I want it to be bright (don’t we all?), full of textures (the duvet I just got is linen and I adore the texture it already adds to the room!), and sprinkled with some colorful, warm patterns. I also want to add a large helping of plants, wooden materials, and some well-chosen art. Oh, and I’ve been growing smitten with fairy lights — are they cute or tacky? I really can’t decide, but I am definitely liking the comfy vibe they give off! I’m excited to make my bedroom into more of a home sanctuary — somewhere that I genuinely love retreating to each night, and that perhaps I could even work in from time to time.
Where are your favorite places to shop for bedroom decor? I’ve been checking out West Elm, CB2, Anthropologie, and IKEA, but I’d love to know your favorites for smaller stores that have beautiful details.

Ooh, I like those. My mom loves interiors, and every time I come home there’s something new and different about my room. I have a purple dresser, but it’s antique. The wood was really bad, so I painted it to make it look better. The rest of my parents’ apartment is white and very Scandinavian (read: white, grey, straight lines, like a magazine), so my room is an oasis of color and texture. I have an art wall of paintings and photographs, a world map in the corner over my desk, and my succulents on the window. I also have a leather Moroccan pouf, super randomly, but I like it. I always wanted it to feel like a cozy world-traveler’s library!
That sounds so lovely, Zoe! I love the way you described it, too — as a cozy world-traveler’s library. It sounds like you totally nailed it!
I love the freshness of these looks! And how lots of these photos include flowers or plants! I think those really brighten up a room 🙂 I need to add some more decorations to my room as well and I’m going to use these as inspiration! Thanks for sharing and good luck in the process of updating your room!
Thanks Gina! Glad you can dig this style, too. I totally agree that flowers and plants brighten up anything. 🙂
unlimited budget and LOTS of time for shopping 😉
Ha! Amen to that, Shaunacey.
I love that hanging light bulb and the multi-sized drawers! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
Yeah that lightbulb is such a neat touch, right? And I loove those drawers, too! I went to buy them at IKEA, but the dresser is pretty enormous haha. Still super cute though 🙂
Ooooh my favorite design colors – white and pink! I joined Weekly Wishes this week and I couldn’t be happier 🙂

YAY! I love those design colors too. So airy with a touch of feminine. Love it! And YAYAYY for joining Weekly Wishes and enjoying it! That makes me very happy. 🙂
I love fairy lights! I don’t have any in my room (yet) but like you, I love the coziness that they give off. When I decorated my room the last time I went with a bit of a beach-inspired decorating scheme, so I got a lot of decorations from Etsy.
Ahh aren’t they cute? I’m trying to think of how I can incorporate them into my room without making it look like a little kid did the decorating haha. And beach-inspired decor sounds beautiful! Reminds me of my dad’s house 🙂
Fairy lights are my fav!! Love IKEA. I’m busy moving house now, well, we’re renovating the new house first so I get to decorate from scratch including the flooring and everything! So I am really pleased I came across your blog for this post!

Thanks for stopping by and following, Jade!! And how exciting that you’re renovating your new house! Congrats! I kind of can’t wait to do that one day! I hope it turns out beautifully. 🙂
We just bought white bedding for our bed and I’m in love with it! I guess some people would think it’s boring, but I think it’s fresh and clean. Makes me so happy every time I see it!
P.S. I love the throw you picked!
Ahh I LOVE white bedding! I used to have it, too, but my dog’s feet would get it dirty, so this time I opted for a light grey and I’m totally digging it. 🙂
I would like modern and simple furniture in my bedroom… like very minimal. I would want a dresser for my tv to go on and two nightstands for the bed, but that’s about it. I think the thing that matters most in the bedroom is the bed because that’s where you end and begin your day! I would love some plants and a lot of light in the bedroom, as well as an iHome or something for my iPod Touch to listen to music. I wouldn’t want my computer in my bedroom because I want to be able to shut down at the end of the day and get immediately to my day when I wake up. I think Fall is a good time to start a new bedroom inspiration because it’s like… since we’ve gone to school when we were little, that’s when we felt the beginning of something new! Can’t wait to see how yours comes out 😉

I’m totally with you on thinking the bed matters most! That’s what I’ve been focusing on first and I’m stoked with the progress so far (i.e. it’s way comfier now!). And I agree about nothing wanting a computer in your room — I tend to keep mine out of my room unless I’m watching Netflix at night or something. Work stays in the living room. 😉
I like my bedroom space to be cozy and comfortable. With everything going on in my crazy life, it’s wonderful to have a sanctuary to retreat into. I like to keep it clean and bright and hang things on the walls that make me smile so that I feel relaxed and cheerful when I’m in there getting dressed, waking up, or watching a movie with my husband. I love the inspiration you just shared!
I love the way you described this, Stacia! It really motivates me to update my room, and especially to add decorations to the walls! I think that will make it feel a lot more loved and cozy. 🙂
I hope you share what you end up doing! I’m sure it will look great!
