Hey there and welcome to Weekly Wishes, where I talk about the goals or challenges I want to achieve this week and also let you share your own through the link-up below. I’d love for you to join me and add a link to your own goal-oriented post! It’s a great way to make new friends from around the world and gain some motivation to achieve your weekly aspirations.
Hi friends! I hope you had an awesome weekend (and a pretty fabulous June, while we’re at it). June started off a little stressful, but ended up being a really great month for me! Now I’m just looking forward to warm summer months, lots of day trips, and an inordinate amount of iced coffee.
This weekend, Monja and I went to Corgi Beach Day, which is a meetup at a local dog beach where hundreds of corgis and their owners gather to hang out and derp it up. It was my first time at a dog beach, but it was so so fun! I was a little nervous since it’s not gated and it’s right next to a busy street, but Monja followed me around and impressed me with his awesomeness. I seriously love that critter so much. I’ll be sharing more about corgi beach day this week because I know you’re just as obsessed with corgis as I am, right? For now, you can get a sneak peak on my Instagram! 😉 Aaaand just because I love you, here’s a teaser of us from the Beach Day! Though I realize it’s pretty deceiving since it looks like he’s the only corgi there. Lies, I tell ya! Monja’s bandana is from this sweet Etsy shop (it has corgis on it!).

How was your June!?
Last Month’s Wishes
- Write for fun. Shoot! I’m kind of sad that I didn’t do this at all. I keep drafting ideas and day dreams in my head, but need to make more of an effort to put them on paper.
- Go to Alt Summit. Woop woop, I did! I still have more I’ll be sharing about this conference, but for now you can read my initial reactions and the most inspiring things I learned there!
- Open a savings account. Oh. Um. Did not do this either. I feel like this month flew by! Ahh excuses! Luckily I saved money anyways, if that counts. 😉 I also just realized June ain’t over yet, so I might just pop by the bank today and knock this off my list!
- Go to Corgi Beach Day. We went!! And it was a blast!! I was really nervous about going because Monja barks a lot at other dogs while he’s on leash, so I assume he’ll be a regular ol’ cujo off-leash, too. But I’m finally realizing that my fears about Monja were wrong. He’s such a sweetheart to other dogs and people and I think the leash makes him feel like he needs to be protective (or so I’ve been told). Anyways, we had a lot of fun and I’m excited to take him back to the dog beach for more playtime in the near future. 🙂
This Month’s Wishes
- Improve my shop. You know, the one I secretly opened earlier this month (you can check it out here!). I’ll be sharing more about it and officially launching it in the coming weeks. For now, I want to make some improvements and brainstorm new ways to make it awesome-er. 🙂
- Open a savings account. Yep, I’m carrying this over from last month. Doh!
- Work on a new project I’ve got brewing in my head. I’m really excited about this one! I hashed out some ideas with my friend Jess last week and she helped me realize that my crazy ideas might not be so crazy after all. I’m pretty stoked to get started and eventually share what the heck I’m hinting at. 😀
- Look into getting a new computer. I bought my computer four years ago, which is pretty amazing to me since it’s held up really well over the years. Given its good condition, I’m not sure if I need a new computer, but I’m scared one day it’ll die of old age, which would kind of be traumatizing since I need it to do my work. Bah!
- Be more intentional. I find that if I don’t have plans for the day, I’ll sit at my computer from morning ’til late at night, working and also doing totally useless things like refreshing Facebook and scrolling through Instagram. I’ve come to terms with the fact that sometimes I get work inspiration sporadically and normal business hours don’t always suit me, but I don’t like the idea of spending so much time doing nothing, waiting for inspiration to strike. I’d like to be more intentional with my time so that when I’m on the computer, I’m working, and when I’m not working, I’m doing something awesome!

June flew by for me, too, but it was a good month. I’ve been working on a lot of business projects and dreaming big, and setting down ways to achieve those dreams – which is the best feeling! I love your goal to be more intentional. I can struggle with that on some days more than others. I love using Wunderlist to keep a list of pressing things and then less pressing things that need to get done in spare moments, and even lists of projects I’ve been wanting to do. It’s helped me be more effective (especially because I can use it on both my computer and my iPhone and I can share lists easily with my husband or friends involved in the projects and it’s free!) I don’t know if you have something like that, but I love it.
Oh, and I stumbled across your shop the other day and wondered if I had somehow missed your announcement of its opening. haha. Now I feel a little better. 🙂
No announcement yet! I wanted to get it out before Alt, but haven’t found it ready yet to announce to the world haha
Girl, I totally know how that goes! I’m looking forward to seeing how you officially announce it, but it looks really good so far! 🙂
That’s awesome!! I used to use Wunderlist a long time ago — I should check it out again. Now I use iClear and I really like it!
I’ve never heard of iClear. I’ll have to take a peek at that one! haha. I love productivity apps. 🙂
I totally agree about being more intentional. I love what you said about when you’re on your computer, you’re working and when you’re not–you’re doing something awesome! I love that outlook! I hope to be more intentional with my time and energy this week. xo, gina
Woohoo! Let’s hope we can both be intentional this month (and intentionally awesome too ;)). 🙂
I agree the part about being more intentional. I can’t believe how fast time flies and before you know you haven’t done anything productive. Super excited about being part of this weekly/monthly wishes community so I can be more intentional and accountable with my time! Also – if you want, you can always open an online saving account to save you the hassle of going to a physical bank. I have a saving account at emigrant direct and it’s pretty awesome since you can just do direct bank transfer to your bank account with no fees or minimum. Good luck on your goals for this month!
Oh say whaaat? I’m going to see if I can open an online savings account right now then! Thanks for the tip 🙂
I like the being more intentional part! I always feel bad when I’m on the computer doing nothing productive and just wasting time. I need to get to a point where I can tell myself “ok, you are obviously not going to get any more work done today, so might as well go to the pool/read a book/paint/insert other hobby I’ve been wanting to practice but always claim to not have the time to work on”.
haha exacccctly!! I am totally the same way, always thinking I don’t have time for fun stuff and then wasting time doing unnecessary things on the computer. I need more balance and intentionality!
Setting goals and keeping all of us accountable is such a great thing. I love the community of this idea! Thank you!
Thank you Jason! 🙂
Amen to being more intentional – I should add that to my own list. I’ve been trying to use the Pomodoro technique to help me stay focused…with mixed results so far.
I had mixed results with it, too! I found that it was difficult for me to focus in that way and that the timer kind of messed with my flow — when I’m in the zone, I can go for hours without needing a break, so taking one ever 25 minutes was disruptive for me.
I love your shop! Everything is so cute! 🙂 Corgi beach day sounds like so much! I’m glad that Monja did better than you thought he would. I’ve heard that some dogs get really anxious when they meet other dogs (and maybe people) while on a leash, because they don’t like the feeling of being restrained, so maybe being off the leash was really helpful for him.
Good luck with your goals this month! They’re all great. 🙂
I think you’re right! I’ve also been told that dogs can put together who is restraining them, so they feel like it’s a threat from another dog. Very interesting!
Thank you for the encouragement! 🙂
I’m so excited to see everything come together, both in regards to your shop and your awesome ideas!! Also, I basically fainted when I saw your Corgi beach day photos on Instagram. SO CUTE!!! I’m glad things worked out for you and Monja. I was reading somewhere that we pass on our fears to our dogs a lot of the time, so perhaps you yourself were more relaxed going to the beach than you think you were! PS Monja’s looks perfect in his little bandana!
Thank you for all of your help and support, girl!!! You should join us at the next corgi beach day. Bring Duke!! And I think you’re totally right about us passing on our fears. Trainers have told me that, too, so I’ve made a conscious effort to feel less worried and just take things as they come. I think it helps! 🙂
Um! Your shop should NOT be a secret! It’s so cute. My favorite print in your shop is NO BAD DAYS! My husband always says that and it’s true for him. He always finds something good in each day.
My husband is also sitting right here by me and said “Will you ask Melyssa why her blog name is The Nectar Collective?” =) I know I read it somewhere but couldn’t remember the details.
Aww you are so sweet, thank you Beka! I love that your husband always says that — what a great motto!
And someone else just recently asked me what the name means! The meaning behind it is that “Melyssa” means “bumblebee” and a bumble bee’s job is to collect nectar, which leads to pollination and the blossoming of flowers (super scientific over here, I know haha!). In terms of my blog, I see it as a place where I’m collecting the nectar of the world — all the good things that will help us grow and be more creative, and sharing them with anyone who drops by. Does that make sense? Maybe I should write a post about this because it seems totally not obvious! haha 🙂
You should blog it! That is a really neat story. I explained it to my husband too and he kind of had the deer in the headlight for a second until I re-explained it =)
My family (mainly my Mom and granny) call me Beka Beeeeeee. For years, they bought me so much bumble bee stuff. I mean, it was ridiculous and getting out of control. They even bought me this large bumble bee tea pot. I laugh at it now and they are good memories but back then I just kept thinking “What am I going to do with all of this stuff?”. I still get bumble bee things now it’s just in moderation.
You are AMAZING!! I’m already drooling over your shop. It’s so freaking awesome.
GAHH you’re so nice, thank you Jenna!! 🙂
YOUR SHOP IS SO COOL. Do not keep that secret, it’s way too awesome!
I’m the same, though – if I haven’t set plans for the day (or have only made very vague ones) then I’ll just sit on my arse all day scrolling through Tumblr, feeling guilty about not doing anything important. Here’s to being more intentional with plans!

Um you’re super sweet. Thanks Kirsten. :)) And here’s to hoping we can be more intentional!! 🙂
I absolutely love your shop, Mel! It’s incredible. I have my eye on the “Creativity takes Courage” print. I am obsessed with handlettering typography so it’s right up my alley. Thanks for sharing!
Your support means so much, Kayla! Thank you! 🙂
Love your goals this month. I’m excited to see the official launch of your shop. And I think we could all benefit from a little more intention. Happy July.
I love the idea of this! Even though the linkup is closed, I still went ahead and wrote down my monthly goals.
