6 WAYS TO FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR BLOG OR BUSINESS

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and whether you’ve got a bae to celebrate with or not, odds are, if you’re reading this, you’ve got a blog or business. (Or maybe I should say, “bae-sness?” Too far?). It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day routine and forget how truly wonderful your blog or biz is. Today I’ve got six tips aimed at helping you love your space. Because even though you might enjoy what you do, we all need a good reminder from time to time.

Send personalized love letters to clients or readers who bring you joy.

Are there clients whose emails you actually look forward to? Readers who always comment on every post you write? Give ’em a thoughtful shout-out or personalized message. Not only will they feel good (who doesn’t love a sincere compliment?), but you’ll feel awesome, too. Building stronger relationships through your blog or business will also give you satisfaction in what you do. Hollaaa.

Sign out of Google Analytics and your bank account.

Your worth and success can’t be justified by the number of zeroes you produce, whether in pageviews or dollar bills. So, sign out. Take the day (or week) off from viewing your statistics. It will refocus your attention back to the bigger picture.

Invest in it.

Is there something you’ve been wanting to purchase for your blog or business, but keep pushing off ’til later? Maybe a new blog design or some neat-o software that you’ve been dying to try? If you have a little extra money to spend, why not invest in your blog or biz? Investing in my own blog and business has helped me immenselyI truly think that you’re stunting your own growth if you’re not willing to invest in the things you’re passionate about.

Clean it up.

Sometimes in relationships, we forget to do the little things, like holding hands or giving praise. Which little things can you work on today for your online space? Maybe your “about” page is outdated or half of your product photos need to be retaken. Spend a few hours and clean up the details. Your site will thank you and you’ll fall in love with your subtle improvements.

Work on that project you’ve been dreaming up.

Have a sweet idea that you’ve been putting off for months? Just get started already! If you can push through those early, unmotivated feelings, you’ll eventually reach a place of “flow,” where that big, daunting project actually becomes easy and fun.

Look at the big picture and be grateful.

It’s easy to dwell on the things you don’t have, but don’t forget how far you’ve come. We all start at zero and work our way up to having loyal readers and customers. Take a moment to step back and look at the big picture. What have you accomplished in the past year?

What will YOU do to put more love into your business or blog?

  1. Robyn Petrik says:

Love these ideas Melyssa! Taking a scheduled break from checking analytics and profits for a week every quarter is probably a great idea. Cut yourself some slack for a week and focus on what the parts of your business/blog that make you happiest.

Oh and bae-sness? Too much, haha.

  2. Stacia says:

These are such great suggestions! I love the idea of sending notes to people/commenters that you appreciate. So special!

  3. Mandy says:

Love this! Just worked on little bits and bobs for my blog yesterday and it felt pretty good! =)

  4. Great suggestions! I stopped checking stats for my blog six months ago because they used to make me feel sad. Now that I’ve stopped, I’ve regained the joy of just writing for writing’s sake. I actually don’t even remember how to check analytics now!

  5. Wait.. Monja is now Skittles??? That’s what your bio says???

  6. Stephanie says:

Great advice!! I actually never check blog stats. 🙂

  7. Cheryn Bloom says:

Thanks for these simple yet profound suggestions to love our blogs more. I will certainly be paying more attention to the details and generally show my blog a little more TLC 🙂

  8. Maya Elious says:

Oooh, love! I have a million and one cute thank you cards that I never use! I need to utilize those! Great post!

  9. Gina Alyse says:

I love this! I think it’s especially important to work on those “big projects” that we always seem to put off, but that are absolutely crucial to our dreams and creativity, our vision moving forward. That being said there’s a few big projects that I hope to do for my blog and for myself soon and I hope to be loyal to those ideas and love my blog in this way! Thank you for the inspiration, Melyssa! It’s always such a joy to come to TNC! Happy Valentine’s Day!

  10. I needed this.

Recently (or just this week really) I have been hating my online space, and I don’t know why when I put so much work into it.

And these feelings are just a waste of my time really, so thank you for this 🙂

  11. Great post! I was thinking along the same lines and finally started working on new text and putting together graphics for my about me page. It’s not done yet, but I have a long weekend, so hopefully I’ll be able to get a lot of work done on everything. 🙂

  12. Hi_D says:

That tip #2 is really helpful. I’ve been really gungho about my blog statistics lately and I panic everytime it drops. But you’re right, I’ll just have to sign out. In fact, I’ll try not to look at it for a week and just enjoy blogging. Thanks, Melyssa. Happy Valentine’s day!
